Auto-blocker tracking scripts

The Auto-Blocker feature in the app provides merchants with the ability to control the activation of various tracking services on their store, such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, and TikTok Pixel. This feature ensures that tracking scripts are only executed after users have explicitly consented to being tracked, aligning with privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA.

The Auto-Blocker feature allows for selective blocking of tracking services until consent is granted by the user. It offers a simple setup process for merchants to comply with privacy laws, without the need for complex manual configuration.

Setup Process for Merchants

Merchants can enable the Auto-Blocker feature by following these steps:

  1. Select Services: Within the app's interface, choose one or more tracking services from the provided list: Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, and TikTok Pixel.

  2. Generate Code: The app will generate a code snippet based on the selected services.

  3. Implement Code: Access the theme.liquid file in the current theme of the store and paste the newly copied code snippet just below the opening <head> tag.

  4. Save File: Save the changes to theme.liquid to ensure the Auto-Blocker feature is active.

User Experience

For first-time visitors to the store, the app will:

  • Block all selected tracking services by default, preventing them from collecting user data.

  • Display a consent banner asking users to accept or deny tracking.

  • Accept all tracking or only the tracking scripts for the services that correspond to the categories—Marketing or Analytics—if the user consents to those specific categories.

Once a user has made their choice regarding tracking:

  • The app will remember the user's consent preferences through cookies.

  • On subsequent visits, the app will automatically apply the user's previous choices, activating the tracking scripts immediately for an uninterrupted user experience if consent was previously granted.
